LEO LÒPEZ

Leo is an exciting footballer from Sweden, widely recognized for his outstanding technique, sharp football intelligence, remarkable pace, and exceptional stamina. His vision and precision passing, combined with his defensive reliability and natural instinct to join the attack, make him a valuable asset on the field. He currently competes in Division 3 Norra Svealand, one of Sweden’s competitive regional leagues.

Early Development

Leo’s football journey began at the age of five with Lohärads IF, a small club located just outside the city of Norrtälje. Norrtälje, a locality and the administrative center of Norrtälje Municipality in Stockholm County, is home to around 25,000 residents (as of 2023), with the municipality boasting a population of approximately 65,000.

From an early age, Leo stood out as a rare talent in his hometown. His ability to shoot and pass accurately with both feet made him one of the city’s most promising prospects. His exceptional football IQ was shaped by the versatility he developed while playing in nearly every position on the field. Starting as a goalkeeper for Lohärads IF, Leo later transitioned through roles as a midfielder and forward. These experiences helped him hone his game intelligence, speed, and dribbling—tools that quickly became his trademarks.

Eventually, Leo refined his skills as a forward and left midfielder, earning him a well-deserved place on the A-team of Norrtälje’s largest football club. His development reflects not only natural talent but also a relentless drive to grow and succeed at higher levels of the game.

Today

Today, Leo Lopéz plays for Norrtälje’s most prominent football club, BKV Norrtälje, where he occupies the position of right-defender.

Although defense is not his primary position, an unexpected opportunity arose when the team captain sustained an injury. Seizing the moment, Leo stepped in to fill the gap — a role he had not previously taken on in a formal capacity — and quickly demonstrated his capabilities.

Local newspapers and football blogs were quick to highlight his remarkable performance, crediting him with playing a pivotal role in helping the team avoid relegation. His contribution did not go unnoticed, with widespread recognition across the media and within the club. Even BKV Norrtälje’s General Manager, Tobias Lindström, acknowledged Leo as the team’s savior during a critical phase of the season.

The team of the year?

Quote:

Leo Lopéz (BKV Norrtälje)

Breakthrough of the Year? Quite possibly – considering he probably wasn’t even in contention for the starting eleven, let alone as a defender, earlier this spring. But after the summer, Peter Hautalahti placed him in the back line, and suddenly BKV became a seriously tough opponent for both top teams and those around them in the table.

Responsive, smart, and full of youthful enthusiasm – whether at center-back or right-back.

Leo, the savior of BKV?

Quote:

It was a tough end to the season for BKV. To avoid the relegation playoffs, they needed points in their final home match against third-placed Åkersberga, who were still in the running for either the league title or a playoff spot.

It was the visiting side, Åkersberga, who dominated the match. Time and again, they tried to reach their prolific strikers, Robin Schildt and Eric Öhnell, with long balls. However, the visitors were barely able to create any real chances — thanks to the defensive giants Zackarias Laprasit and Leo Lopéz in BKV’s back line, who shut down every attempt and kept BKV in the game.

Head coach - word after seasons last game

Quote:

What’s your take on this draw?

– We knew exactly what they wanted to do. They rely on long balls aimed at their star player, Robin Schildt. Our Leo Lopéz, whom we’ve converted from an attacking player to a defender, along with the rest of the back line, completely shut down their offensive threats in an incredible way. We knew our game plan, we executed it together, and it worked perfectly, says Peter Hautalahti - Head Coach.

Norrtälje’s Sporting Director Tobias Lindström commented on the match:

– A true fighting performance. Every player showed incredible heart and character. This is exactly how we need to play in the remaining matches. Everyone deserves full credit. Special praise goes to Leo Lopéz and Fredrik Huthala.
